Project Engineer Intern
Worked onsite at the UC Merced expansion project to construct eleven buildings; effectively doubling the size of the university's campus over a four-year project. CMI is the subcontractor responsible for the design and installation of the mechanical systems in each of the buildings. Their work interested me as the architecture and the construction industry has long been a side interest of mine. My responsibilities included supporting the Project Engineers and Project Managers on site. I retrieved information from technical documents and architectural drawings in addition to addressing problems out in the field. One particular problem I worked extensively on was improving wireless window switch controls in the new dorm room buildings. In order to save energy used by the air conditioning system, the University required a system that would shut off the air conditioning in a room when the window was opened. Myself and a technician were able to troubleshoot connection issues and implemented a solution that resolved the widespread connectivity issue.
