Product Quality Intern
At Sonos I worked as an intern on the product quality team. Here I worked on a variety of projects to streamline their new product development process and contributed to process improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
Fit and Finish Process Improvement
SONOS completes "Fit and Finish" sessions after major prototype production runs of a product during NPI. Once units are received in-house but before being distributed out to engineers for functional testing, they are systematically unboxed by reviewers from a variety of design and engineering teams who look for cosmetic/user experience issues and ensure units are functional at the most basic level. Notes on any issues were written on paper forms and images without any descriptions were uploaded after the session to a drive folder for each reviewer. I refreshed this rather archaic system by creating a google form for reviewers to use while looking at units. Using the new system reviewers were able to use their phones to take photos and type corresponding notes for issues with a given product component on the spot. After submitting the form, a google sheet was populated with the images and corresponding descriptions. From here, the quality team could sort and filter issues to find common or worrisome issues to bring to the product development lead with a one-day turnaround.
Jira Component Reclassification
A variety of hardware projects were managed through Jira but depending on program leads, the different Jira platforms varied widely. This made it difficult for the quality and other teams to analyze where bugs were most commonly occurring across programs. I worked with the various technical project leads across multiple disciplines to create a Jira project template that consistently categorized Jira bugs. From here, past programs could be analyzed for common issues to hopefully prevent common cross-program systematic issues from continuing into future NPI programs.
QMS Sharepoint Redesign
The quality team needed to refresh an old SharePoint page to improve clarity and user-friendliness for others across the organization to find useful informational resources. I worked within the quality team to update and reorganize information and then redesigned the layout into a more clear and current version of SharePoint before working with IT to have it posted onto the main internal SONOS website.
Other Projects
I also worked on several other minor projects to help quality drive an increase of cohesion within cross-disciplinary product development teams by creating, altering, or refining internal systems and processes.
